Dj Cross Fade
The first moment i wanted to be a Dj was when i heard a Scratch Dj mixing on the radio.The 1st set up i had was a mixer form Radio shake and a Daul tapedeck in 96 i didnt even know what i was doing . i would just crossfade tapes back and forth from tape deck 1 to tape deck 2
This was about the same time I met Chris Nelson . He came down to California from Hawaii. His set up was 2 turntables a ghetto mixer(Gemini). When i saw him mix, I said to myself, if he can show me how to mix,I will be able to do that too. He took me under his wing and began to teach me the basic's of beat bledning of Djing in 97. He told me to be his roadie to help him with mobile djing and in doing so i would learn how to work the crowd... Plus he just needed someone to help him with taking 9 milk crates of records along with us to the partys we did .
Back then cds where not as big everything was on vinyl i was cheap help all i wanted to do is learn the art of djing .for those that are yonger there was no mp3 back then . we had to take the music with us . You would be so burned out just taking all this music with you .
anyway i would just go around for free pluging in his gear making sure everything was ready for him to mix . i learned the art of the Long blending 2 songs together making them sound one song . in about 1999 my God father seen how much i loved djing so he handed me his out technic turntable it was broken at the time but i did not care i would be on it for 16 hours at a time . spending most of my time in record shops when i was not working trying to find that one White label record that no one had and loved every moment of it . in about 2000 i saved up and got my 1 pair of turntables they where Gemini pt 1000 mind you not the best thing to get but i did not have the money for technic 1200 . i spent about 300 on the pair along with my 1st real mixer the Gemini Scratch master . that mixer only had no eq what so ever
i did not have internet back then so i did not know much about dj gear . i must have been though 14 cheap set ups lolz . Gemini was not the best we go up to 2002 i started learning trick mixing from the mixkings djs i 1st met dmc camp dj buddy dude had a style of mixing i have never heard before its was like he made his own breaks live with vinyl . with each dj i would meet i would learn something new and add it to my own style of mixxing
17 years later i have not looked back and i have a new set up this makes 15
